Prosecutor Reveals Startling Details in Charlie Kirk Shooting
Called “a US disaster,” legal authorities detailed a disturbing account of the accused assassination of rightwing activist Charlie Kirk.
A Planned Assault
As stated by the district attorney’s office, Tyler Robinson had become driven by hatred for Kirk and his ideology. Authorities claim Robinson premeditated the killing in just over a week after learning Kirk would be appearing at Utah Valley University.
Text Messages Reveal Confession
Prosecutors assert Robinson sent his housemate messages admitting to the murder. In a particular exchange, Robinson reportedly wrote, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
“Erase this exchange,” the suspect allegedly texted in a later message.
Murder Weapon Details
Authorities believe a firearm owned by Robinson’s grandfather was employed in the shooting. The gun was subsequently found in a nearby area wrapped in a towel.
Three bullets were recovered with the weapon, every one engraved with provocative messages.
Political Motives
Based on testimony from Robinson’s mother, the suspect had recently become increasingly ideological and started tilting toward progressive views, supporting LGBTQ+ rights.
Robinson had also started dating his housemate, a biological male who was undergoing a gender transition, which reportedly caused conflict within his household.
Apprehension and Accusations
Robinson was arrested on September 12 and accused with first-degree murder. Prosecutors stated they will pursue the death penalty.
Law enforcement say Robinson’s own mother identified him from media photos of the suspect and notified authorities.
Court Hearings
The suspect made an initial hearing on Tuesday, with a waiver hearing set for September 29.
The state stressed that the details shared are merely accusations at this stage and recognized the grief of Kirk’s loved ones.
“As with any homicide, the senseless ending of Charlie Kirk’s life has shattered the lives of those he loved,” stated the prosecutor.
