US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized the brutal murder of an Indian-origin motel supervisor in Texas last week.

"Enough of being soft on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is OVER under my watch," he emphasized in a message on his social media platform.

Background of the Tragic Incident

Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, 50, was allegedly attacked with a machete by his co-worker the accused in front of his family after a dispute over a malfunctioning washing machine.

Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, who is now in jail, has been accused of homicide.

The President’s Response

Trump promised that Mr Cobos-Martinez "faces prosecution to the fullest extent of the law" and will be "charged with murder in the highest degree."

He also targeted the federal government, stating that Mr Cobos-Martinez had been previously arrested for multiple crimes, including accused child abuse, but was "released back into society because Cuba declined to take him back."

Legal Status of the Accused

As per federal records, the suspect is an undocumented immigrant with a final order of deportation from the US.

He was allegedly in custody at a center in Dallas but was freed on an monitoring order in early this year after authorities "would not accept him due to his criminal history."

Victim’s Life

The victim, who was from the Indian state of Karnataka, worked at the Downtown Suites Motel in Dallas.

He studied at educational institutions in Bangalore, India, before relocating to the US in recent years. His child just finished high school and is planning to begin college.

Timeline of the Attack

The assault took place on September 10. Police responded to a "stabbing call" and confirmed through preliminary findings that the accused had cut the victim multiple times with an edged weapon.

ICE has placed a detainer on Mr Cobos-Martinez at the local jail, where he is currently in detention.

Aftermath

The victim’s funeral were conducted on 13 September in Texas, attended by family and friends.

A donation drive initiated to support his loved ones has raised over $321K so far.
