Man Falsely Admitted Firing at Kirk to Distract from Actual Shooter, Law Enforcement Report
A senior suspect, taken into custody following the shooting of Charlie Kirk and subsequently let go, attempted to help the suspected gunman flee by faking a confession, officials report.
Local sheriff Michael Smith said that the individual admitted to police that he had "yelled that he was the shooter to allow the true gunman flee".
The key person in the killing is the young suspect Tyler Robinson, who seemed to recognize Mr Zinn's first apprehension after the incident, informing a companion through a text that the police "grabbed some crazy old dude."
Mr Zinn is facing charges on interfering with law enforcement charges. Additionally, he has also been charged with having inappropriate content.

George Zinn was part of a pair that authorities questioned for investigation after media personality Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University on 10 September.
Police later determined that the detained individuals were not involved in the shooting.
Mr Zinn "intentionally yelled he was the shooter and by doing so, obstructed Law Enforcement from focusing on the actual shooter", the sheriff said in a official comment.
Legal filings provided by campus police allege that Mr Zinn began shouting: "I fired the weapon - now shoot me."
When questioned by police where the firearm employed during the shooting was located, he is said to have replied: "I am not going to tell you", according to the documents.
The sheriff emphasized that there was at this time no proof Mr Zinn colluded with the gunman.

The law enforcement official noted that Mr Zinn is facing custody for the abuse involving a child, and that investigators discovered over twenty pictures of children "in various stages of undress and sexual posing."
